For both teams this is the last chance to reach Europa League qualifiers next season. Admira completed ther goal for this season and stayed in Austrias highest league (because Wacker Innsbruck is twelve points behind them in the relegation spot with five games left two play, so the relegation is almost fix). Sturm had a catastrophic season for their conditions and is just one spot above Admira, who are on 8th spot. Usually they play for EL places, but now their only opportunity therefore is to reach the Cup-final.

The last duel last Saturday

This match-up was played a few days ago in Graz and the game ended with a 1-1 draw. But the result doesn´t even reflect the shown performances in a way. In the first 30 minutes Sturm ad problems with getting through an aggressivly defendig Admira and so the games was played in midfield, without scenes in front of the goals. In minute 33 Marco Djuricin initiated a Sturm attacking run with his first chance in this game. A few minutes later Schloffer and Djuricin again had chances, but both were saved by well playing Admira GK Kuttin. But in minute 43 Djuricin made everything right after a combination from Kainz and Beric, and he scored the 1-0 leading goal for Sturm.

After HT break it was the same picture, but more opportunities, a header by Vujadinovic and a shot by Beric were missed or saved by Kuttin again. In minute 65, out of the nothing, Admira scored the equalising goal after a deflected shot. Shortly afterwards another deflected shot, by Admira defender Katzer was saved great by Sturm GK Pliquett. In the end Djuricin had the matchball two times on his shoe, but both chances weren´t used and so a one-way game ended with a point for both teams.

What was visible in this games, were the problems in Admira´s defense due to many missing players. But for the next games the situation isn´t getting better. The opposite is the case: Windbichler (CAP/DEF/25/1), Zwierschitz (DEF/13/1), Weber (DEF/21/0), Drescher (DEF/3/0) and Rusek (DEFMID/14/0) are injured, Schößwendter (DEF/23/2) didn´t play on Saturday and is very doubtful and also Sulimani (ST/8/5), who showed very good games after returning to Austria from Norwegian League is questionable. With Zwierschitz and Weber, who played the last games two more options in defense are out now, so I can´t imagine, how this defense should make a stable game.

On Sturm side there are no new injuries. Long times injured players Ehrenreich (DEF/8/0), Pfingstner (DEF/2/0) and Hütter (DEF/7/0) remain out, but GK Gratzei (GK/15/0) and Midfielder Weber (MID/21/2) should be at least on the bench after missing the last game.

Conclusion

Admira still has reached their goals for this season and an advancing to next round just would be a bonus. Sturm on the other side needs an EL place more and will fight for it here with all they have got and a bit feeling for revenge after not winning in league on Saturday. Sturm can use the many missings on Admira side to come to semifinals and in my opinion they will, although Cup got it´s own rules.
