Team summary: Former Adelaide United assistant, Phil Stubbins, has been entrusted with taking the club forward following a tumultuous campaign, on and off the field. Stubbins will hope he can last longer than his predecessor, Gary Van Egmond, who was shown the door after just 15 games into the 13-14 season. With owner and mining magnate Nathan Tinkler wanting to sell the club, a cloud of uncertainty continues to hang over the Newcastle Jets.
Conclusion: Phil Stubbins will do well to go at least one better than last season and make the finals, especially with the distractions in and around the club. In the transfer market, he has taken a gamble on a number of proven but injury-plagued stars - namely Billy Celeski, Marco Flores, Adrian Madaschi and Jeronimo Neumann. The importance of keeping the aforementioned fit and healthy cannot be overstated. Johnny Steele, from MLS club New York Red Bulls, is an interesting signing and will provide plenty of energy and drive down the left wing. I have a bad feeling about the Jets this season. I expect another disappointing campaign, on the pitch at least.
Predicted finish: 10th
