由于墨尔本足球市场庞大，造就墨尔本雄心在08年创立，后来被曼城老板文梳亚的财团入主，今季改名为墨尔本城出战澳职，而且罗致几名极高质素的新球员进行换血，当中最受注的，当然是西班牙射手韦拿加盟纽约城后以借用身份加盟，成为澳职最触目球星。

墨尔本城放走前锋基维尔后，罗致到射手韦拿、翼锋杜夫及中场高伦，由于韦拿只会为墨尔本城上阵10场赛事，因此上季攻入12个常规赛入球的射手戴维威廉斯获得留用，确保韦拿离开后，留队的教练施基普有足够的兵源继续争夺球会史上首个重要锦标。

无疑过去的澳职已经证明，单靠罗致个别星级球员，根本无法成为联赛中的真正争标份子，不过今季墨尔本城有多名高质素球员加盟，而且在有需要的时候，有条件继续增兵，因此墨尔本城有望成为西悉尼流浪者后，突然在澳职冒起的争霸新势力。

Team summary: No club, perhaps in A-League history, has gone through such a large transformation in such a short space of time. Melbourne City, the old Melbourne Heart, has an opportunity to start anew following the influx of oil money from the Arab consortium that owns Premier League club, Manchester City. Everything from the squad depth down to the training methods and facilities have been improved so it will be interesting to see just how far John Van't Schip can take last season's cellar dwellers.

Conclusion: Unlike last term when Van't Schip took over from John Aloisi midway through the season, the City gaffer has had a full pre-season to implement his style and methods. No shortage of quality has been brought into the squad with the acquisition of Spain's all-time leading goal scorer, David Villa (on a 10-game guest stint), as well as former Premier League stars Damien Duff and Robert Koren, among others. On paper, no side in the A-League has a better attacking unit but the defence looks somewhat neglected. Irrespective of this, I expect Melbourne City's firepower to propel them into the finals.
